Last week TVLine sat down with The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec to talk about what happened in the season 4 finale and what could possibly happen in season 5. Thankfully, she mentioned Michael’s character Tyler and a return for the next season. Read on to find out what she said:
TVLINE | It seemed like Caroline and Tyler are poised for a reunion. Will Michael Trevino be back next season as a regular?
Michael Trevino is still under contract. When he’ll return, we can’t say yet. He is going to have the opportunity to return to Caroline’s life in Mystic Falls. The question is, will he want to take it, given everything he’s been through since he’s been gone, which will be fun for us to learn — like what kind of life he’s been leading on the run.

The CW has ordered early renewals for some of it’s more popular shows like ‘The Vampire Diaries’ which means that we’ll get to see our favorite supernatural beings for a whole ‘nother season! Anyone as happy as I am about this?! (:
The CW on Monday announced early pick-ups for three of its series: Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow.
Arrow gave The CW its best series premiere since 2009, Vampire Diaries is the network’s highest-rated show in target demos and Supernatural is up 15 percent in total audience versus last season. The dramas will be entering their second, fifth and ninth seasons in fall 2013, respectively.
“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” network president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”
